Oratory of Saint Martin
The first initiatives in honor of Saint Martin in Riva Faraldi date back to 1627, when the inhabitants expressed the desire to build a chapel in the ancient church of San Salvatore (now the Church of the Transfiguration), a project that was never realized.
In 1736, an oratory dedicated to the Saint was built, entrusted to the local brotherhood, which took care of its maintenance and celebrations. Active until the early twentieth century, the brotherhood had about forty members.
In 1887, a violent earthquake severely damaged the building, making its recovery impossible. The community was then forced to temporarily use the chapel of San Rocco and started the project for the construction of a new oratory, closer to the village.
Today, some elements of the ancient building remain, including the altar and architectural fragments reused in the current structure. The oratory has been recently restored and every year, on November 11th, the feast of Saint Martin is celebrated there.
