Villa Faraldi is among the mountain municipalities, Damonte: "Essential for the inland"
The municipal council of Villa Faraldi unanimously approved a resolution appointing the mayor Stefano Damonte to intervene with the Government, the Liguria Region, and ANCI to safeguard the recognition of the town as a “Mountain Municipality” under the new **Mountain Law (Law of September 12, 2025, no. 131)”.
According to the administration, the proposed criteria for classification — based on altitude and slope — risk seriously penalizing the Ligurian hinterland, where complex morphology, difficult road access, and depopulation are not adequately represented by mathematical models alone.
The possible exclusion of Villa Faraldi from the list of Mountain Municipalities would result in the loss of access to funds like FOSMIT and PSR, the loss of tax benefits, and fewer tools to support families and businesses. For this reason, the Municipality has sent a note to the competent authorities requesting a more realistic approach to the realities of small communities in the hinterland.
Recent agreements in the Unified Conference would have included the village in the new provisional lists, allowing Villa Faraldi to rejoin the mountain towns in the province of Imperia, although with some still unresolved issues regarding the definitive criteria.
